The Maya had several phallic worship cults that probably involved temple prostitution or temple-approved sexual encounters. Large stone phalli reminiscent of those in Scotland are found at some Mayan sites. Small portable phalli have been found that served either as talisman in shamanic rituals or as jewelry or charms.Over 130 large phalli have been found to date from over 40 different Mayan sites.
